The opening round of matches in the 2026 Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) will kick off today with a highly anticipated double-header at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex where defending champions Frazsiers Whip will get their campaign under way.
The opening game of the double-header will see Frazsiers Whip begin their quest for a third consecutive hold on the title when they take on Los Perfectos at 3 p.m. in Zone B action.
The fixture will be a repeat of last season’s semi-finals, where Frazsiers Whip edged Los Perfectos 2-1 on their way to the title.
The defending champions will be confident of getting another win over the Manchester-based club.
For Los Perfectos, the fixture will be a prime opportunity to avenge their semi-final defeat and set the tone for what could be a promising season.
In the day’s curtain closer, hosts Arnett Gardens will welcome Real Mona who are making their return to the JWPL ranks in Zone A action.
The Junglists finished third last season, and will be confident of yet another strong start to their campaign.
They will face off against a very youthful Real Mona squad who, led by head coach Neo Oxford, will be looking to make a deep run in the competition.
Much of Real Mona’s core will be drawn from Reinas Academy, one of the leading women’s football academies in Jamaica.
Real Mona had agreed a partnership with Reinas ahead of the season, which would see players from Reinas compete under Real Mona’s banner.
Zone A action will also see Proven Academy take on Wi-Fi United in their opening game at the York Sports Complex.
SOMETHING SPECIAL
Jaydean Walker, head coach of Proven, said his players are ready for the season ahead and is confident they can better their seventh place-finish from last year.
“Preparation has been great. We started off a bit early. Well, we never really stopped from last year, because, for women’s football, we kind of have a lot of small tournaments leading up,” he explained.
“So it has been good and we are quite confident about this season. I won’t say much but, trust me, Proven will be something special this season.”
Also in Zone A, the University of the West Indies (UWI) will host last year’s beaten finalists Cavalier at the UWI Mona Bowl.
In Zone B affairs, Springers United will hope to open their campaign with a win when they play Mile Gully at Irwin High School, while Real MoBay will welcome Federal United at Jarrett Park.
