Holland High School’s Shanoya Douglas registered her second personal-best time of the meet on yesterday’s final day of competition at the Carifta Trials inside the National Stadium.
On a day when several athletes produced personal-best times in multiple events, Douglas won the under-20 girls’ 200 metres in 22.58 seconds to complete the sprint double. On the first day of the three-day meet last Friday, Douglas scorched the track in 11.06 seconds over the 100m to register a career-best time over that distance.
Natrice East of Wolmer’s Girls’ was second yesterday in 23.58, with Kimberly Wright of Immaculate Conception third in 24.12.
In the girls’ under-17 event, which saw 100m champion Rihanna Scott being disqualified for a false start, St Mary High’s Sjayon Smith caught leader Daniela Clarke of Edwin Allen High close to the finish line to win in 24.32. Clarke was second in 24.42, with third going to Kerion Jarrett of Maggotty High in 25.20.
There were personal-best times for the top three finishers in both the boys’ under-17 and under-20 200m. In the under-17 event, Mario Ross of Wolmer’s Boys’ stopped the clock at 21.18. Tyler Morgan of Jamaica College was second in 21.35 and Javane Clayton of Calabar third in 21.54.
Sanjay Seymore, who finished second in the 100 metres, returned to capture the under-20 200m in 20.95, ahead of Deaqoun Maragh of Camperdown (21.06) and Elijah Smikle of Jamaica College (21.16).
Earlier, there were personal-best times for Alyssa Carry of St Jago High and Maria Crossfield of Edwin Allen in the girls’ under-17 and under-20 400m hurdles finals, respectively.
Carry, the Carifta Games bronze medallist in the event last year, won in 59.89 ahead of Imani Lowe of Immaculate Conception (1:01.47) and Sha-Jay Davis of Alpha (1:01.72).
In a very close encounter in the under-20 event, Crossfield won in 58.71, ahead of Hydel’s Nastassia Fletcher (58.73). Third went to Shaneca Harris of Port Antonio High in a personal-best 59.09.
Oneil Lawrence of Jamaica College won the boys’ under-17 400m hurdles in a personal-best 52.46. Kavian Minott of Hydel was second in 52.85, with Raneil Burke of St Jago third in 53.02.
Hydel’s Robert Miller, the defending Carifta Games under-20 champion, won the event in 50.53. Jahvannie Tyrell of Kingston College was second in 51.50, with Rojay Black of Jamaica College third in 52.49.
In the girls’ under-17 800m, Aneika Lowe of Edwin Allen won in 2:13.67. In the under-20 event, Kevongaye Fowler of Edwin Allen won in a personal-best 2:07.04, ahead of Keyah Anderson of Queen’s (2:10.39).
Markland Williams of Denbigh High created history for his school with a first win at the Carifta Trials, taking the under-17 800m in a massive personal-best 1:55.03, ahead of Luke Plummer of Sydney Pagon (1:57.05).
There were also some outstanding results in the sprint hurdles, led by Tashana Godfrey of Edwin Allen in the under-17 girls’ 100m hurdles. She won in 13.00 seconds, ahead of Macaelo Gordon of Alpha in 13.47.
Wolmer’s Girls’ athletes finished one-two in the under-20 event. Tiana Marshall won in a personal-best 12.97, ahead of Ackelia Bell (13.21).
Wolmer’s Boys’ Mark Daniel Allen won the under-17 110m hurdles in a personal-best 13.57, ahead of Brandon Bennett of Kingston College (13.67).
There was also a one-two finish for St Jago s in the boys’ under-20 event as Romario Jibbidon won in 13.37, ahead of Marquies Page (13.60).
