LONDON, England (CMC):
West Indies middle order batsman Sherfane Rutherford will turn out for MI London in the upcoming Hundred after being bought in the first-ever auction here on Thursday.
The 27-year-old left-hander, fresh from an impressive T20 World Cup campaign, was snapped up by MI London which offered an opening bid of £100, 000.
He will join his former West Indies teammate in Nicholas Pooran, who was acquired for £175, 000.
The Hundred is set to bowl off on July 21 and run until August 16.
Rutherford was one of the standout performers for the West Indies at the recently concluded World Cup in India, where he scored 183 runs in seven innings at a stunning average of 61.
It continued his impressive form since the start of the year in the game’s shorter format, where he averages 63 in 16 innings at a strike rate of 169.
Rutherford is also slated to represent the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), which bowls off later this month.
