MANCHESTER, England (CMC):
Jamaican international Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw is reportedly close to signing a new contract with Manchester City in the Women’s Super League (WSL).
Amidst reports that defending WSL champions Chelsea were planning on pursuing the 29-year-old forward at the end of the season, it is reported that talks between Shaw and City have been “progressing positively” in recent weeks.
Shaw is City’s all-time leading goal-scorer and the current top goal-scorer in the 2026 WSL with 15 goals from 16 matches and has also provided four assists.
Her impressive performances have positioned City at the top of the WSL table on 42 points from their 16 games, eight points ahead of second-place Manchester United, with Chelsea one point behind in third on 33 points.
According to a report by the Guardian, while details of an extension are being worked on and nothing has been signed, there is confidence that she will stay with the league leaders.
Shaw joined City from Bordeaux in 2021 on a three-year deal that in 2023 was extended to 2026, and she is inside the final four months of her contract.
Renewing Shaw’s deal has been a high priority for City. She is the heavy favourite to be the WSL’s player of the season and has been their star player this season.
Shaw has 77 WSL goals and will look to add to that at Aston Villa on Sunday, having scored three in four WSL games before the international break.
