Douglas heads strong team for April 4-6 Carifta Games | Sports

The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) has named a strong team for the 2026 Carifta Games to be held in St George’s, Grenada between April 4-6. Jamaica’s athletes will defend the title they won last year with an overall tally of 78 medals – 30 gold, 27 silver and 21 bronze.

Defending Under 20 double sprint champion Shanoya Douglas of Holland High will spearhead the girls U20 group. Douglas was outstanding at the Trials where she posted personal best times of 11.06 seconds and 22.58 seconds to win the 100 and 200 metres.

Marla Kay Lampart of Clarendon College will be hoping to defend her title in in U20 discus after her second place finish at the Trials with a throw of 47.49 metres while Tiana Marshall of Wolmer’s Girls, following her personal best 12.97 seconds win at the Trials, will be hoping to repeat in the U20 100m hurdles.

In the Under-17 girls’ section, Rihanna Scott of Ferncourt High and Azaria Harris of Convent of Mercy (Alpha) are the top two in the 100m while Shayon Smith of St Mary High and Danelia Clarke of Edwin Allen will contest the 200m. Shameika McLean of Foga Road High and Daniella Dixon of William Knibb are down to compete in the 400m.

Defending 400m hurdles champion Robert Miller of Hydel High will lead the charge among the U20 boys. Miller clocked 50.53 seconds to win the event at the Trials. Another defending champion in the U20 age group, Michael Andre Edwards of Jamaica College, will seek back to back titles in the long jump title. At the trials he won with a distance of 7. 36m.

The Under-17 boys’ team also boasts several exciting talents including Diwayne Sharpe of Calabar High and Jason Pitter of Kingston College who will run the 400m while Markland Williams of Denbigh High and Luke Plummer of Sydney Pagon High will contest the 800m
