Melbourne Mavericks have suffered another heartbreaking one-point loss going down to crosstown rivals, the Melbourne Vixens.
In front of a record Mavs’ home crowd of 8,463, the Mavs sent the match into extra time after tying the ledger at 63-apiece at the full time buzzer.
After two five-minute periods of extra time, the Vixens nudged ahead to claim victory, 72-71.
This is the Mavs’ second-consecutive one-point loss, after going down to the NSW Swifts in Sydney last week.
The loss was soured when vice captain, Tara Hinchliffe, took a heavy fall in the final term, and had to be helped from the court.
Mavs captain, Amy Parmenter, and head coach, Gerard Murphy, attended the press conference after the match.
