After day one, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force established an early lead in their match, while Barbados Pride also took charge in their first-round West Indies Championship fixture.
In their recent first-class match, spinners Bryan Charles and Khary Pierre led T&T’s bowling effort, taking three wickets apiece to dismiss the Leeward Islands Hurricanes for 138. T&T then responded strongly with the bat.
Kevin Wickham became the first player to score a century in the tournament, guiding Barbados Pride to a solid first-innings total against Jamaica Scorpions on the first day.
After day one, the match between Windward Islands Volcanoes and defending champions Guyana Harpy Eagles remained level, with both teams still contesting their first innings.
At Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force won the toss and decided to bowl. They dominated after bowling out the Leeward Islands Hurricanes for just 138.
Fast bowlers Jayden Seales, Anderson Phillip, and Terrance Hinds made early breakthroughs, while spinners Bryan Charles (3-9) and Khary Pierre (3-34) finished off the innings.
Jahmar Hamilton top-scored with 44, helping the Hurricanes recover briefly before a late collapse.
In reply to the Hurricanes’ first-innings total, T&T openers Evin Lewis (28) and Cephas Cooper (22) remained unbeaten at 62 without loss at stumps, trailing by 76 runs heading into day two.
At Chedwin Park in Jamaica, Barbados Pride posted a strong first-innings total of 348 after recovering from early trouble at 23 for three. Marquino Mindley bowled Captain Kraigg Brathwaite for a duck and Jonathan Drakes for 10, while Ojay Shields trapped Shayne Moseley lbw for six in the opening session.
Wickham starred with a magnificent 153 from 193 balls, scoring the tournament’s first century and building key partnerships with Kyle Mayers (64) and Shamar Springer (40).
Lower-order contributions helped add valuable runs, while Marquino Mindley (4-32) and Peat Salmon (4-104) led Jamaica’s bowling.
Jamaica Scorpions started their run chase in the first innings, ending day one on 17 without loss and trailing by 331 runs to Barbados Pride.
At Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, Guyana Harpy Eagles and Windward Islands Volcanoes remained evenly matched after both sides’ first innings play on day one.
The Volcanoes, batting first, posted 286 in 86.1 overs, led by Ackeem Auguste’s 95 and lower-order contributions, setting the tone on the opening day.
Gudakesh Motie starred with 6-73, triggering a middle-order collapse that Keemo Paul (2-27) supported.
Guyana Harpy Eagles began their first innings reply and safely reached 2 without loss by stumps on day one.
