FINALLY, a date has been announced for the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc. (SVGCA)to convene a meeting to elect a new executive to run the affairs of the organisation.
A special general meeting for this purpose will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026.This was the outcome of another special general meeting held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the National Sports Council’s conference room at Arnos Vale. A release from SVGCA Inc.’s secretariat, dated April 11, 2026, notes at that special meeting the general membership determined that the current executive had exhausted its mandate.
However, the meeting confirmed that executive will operate in an interim capacity until May 9, 2026, when a new executive will be ushered in.
Also, that special general meeting agreed that the selection committee will come up with a training squad for the senior male team ahead of the Windward Islands tournament in July.
Additionally, it was decided that all other sub-committees were deemed to have exhausted their mandate.
The hosting of an elective annual general meeting has been protracted, with the outgoing executive of the SVGCA Inc. at one point begging forgiveness from its affiliate members for the delay.
This was confirmed in a letter dated January 26, 2026, signed by SVGCA Inc.’s General Secretary, Samuel Holder, who at that time had informed affiliates of the deferral of the AGM.
The correspondence read, “For the second consecutive year, we must beg your indulgence regarding the Association’s delay in convening our Annual General Meeting (AGM) within the constitutionally stipulated time frame”.
Holder noted that the main cause of the delay was the perennial issue of the timely availability of the “audited statements”. According to Holder’s letter, “President Dougal James has indicated his unwillingness to convene any meeting without the audited financial statements”.
Holder, a long-standing general secretary of the organisation, had suggested that the AGM was likely to be scheduled for the “latter part of February at the earliest”.
The delay in having an executive committee installed has left the sport without any national competitions thus far for 2026.
The outgoing executive led by Dougal James, was voted into office on September 5, 2023.
