ABERDEEN have announced the shock signing of Scotland star Stuart Armstrong.
Dons boss Jimmy Thelin further boosted his squad by signing the free agent 24 hours after bringing in £10m Swedish international Jesper Karlsson and Kevin Nisbet.
Armstrong, 33, was available on a free transfer having left Sheffield Wednesday at the end of last season.
The former Celtic and Dundee United midfielder, who has 51 Scotland caps, would help Thelin’s Euro squad by boosting the number of domestic players in the Dons’ pool.
Aberdeen faced a race against time to get him signed and registered with UEFA to make their Conference League squad, with their first tie at home to Ukrainians Shakhtar Donetsk next month.
Speaking after sealing his return to Scottish football, Armstrong said: “These things always happen fast but I am delighted to be here.
“I’ve not been back to the city for a long time so it’s nice to come back full circle in a football sense which is nice.
“It’s a good footballing decision for me to come here. It’s a chance for me to play competitive, challenging football and the lure of playing in Europe is exciting.
“I hope I can add something to the team and help us achieve something special together.”
