Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader has issued Decree 306-25 establishing a special advisory commission to assess the feasibility of constructing a modern baseball stadium on state-owned land in the Ensanche La Fe neighborhood of Santo Domingo. The envisioned facility would meet Major League Baseball (MLB) standards, aiming to position the Dominican capital as a venue for international baseball events.
Beyond the stadium, the commission will examine complementary projects that support urban renewal, sports development, and recreational spaces—strategically maximizing public land use for the city’s benefit. The decree underscores the importance of modern sports infrastructure aligned with the country’s rich baseball legacy and growing global influence in the sport.
Chaired by Jorge Subero Isa, the commission includes the Minister of Sports, BANDEX’s general manager, the National Baseball Commissioner’s executive director, and experts Angélica Noboa Pagán, Elka Shecker Mendoza, Olivo Rodríguez Huertas, and Edgar Torres Reynoso, who will serve as executive director. The group will report directly to the President and operate under the Ministry of Finance until their mandate is fulfilled.
