Academy Sports Club’s Under-13 and Under-14 boys teams are in Portugal to compete in the renowned IberCup Estoril from 30 June to 9 July.
The IberCup is one of the world’s premier international youth football tournaments, drawing elite teams and academies from more than 50 countries. Held annually in Estoril, just outside the capital Lisbon, the competition offers young players a rare chance to test themselves against top international opponents, including youth teams from leading European professional clubs.
For Academy’s youth players, this marks not only a competitive milestone but also a powerful developmental experience, the club said in a press release. This opportunity to engage directly with a top-tier European football environment is a major highlight of the trip, it added.
This latest tour continues Academy Sports Club’s long-standing tradition of providing international exposure for its players. Earlier this year, Academy teams competed in both Spain and the United States, reinforcing the club’s commitment to helping players grow through elite competition abroad.
Paul Byles, head of youth development at Academy Sports Club, said, “Opportunities like the IberCup are incredibly important for our players. Competing against some of the best youth teams in the world which will challenge them in the best possible way – on and off the pitch. These experiences help shape confident, skilled, and resilient young athletes.”
