ADAM IDAH’S departure from Celtic has been confirmed, bringing an end to his 18-month stay at Parkhead.
The Irish striker initially spent half a season on loan in Glasgow from Norwich City, before signing permanently in summer 2024.
But Idah has brought his Celtic career to an end, signing for Championship side Swansea for a fee in excess of £6m.
He’s put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Welsh club.
Idah told the official club website: “I am really looking forward to getting down to work.
“There is a real ambition to make the club successful, and I feel the role they want me to take here is a great fit for me.
“Celtic are one of the biggest clubs in world football, but for me the end goal is to come back to playing in the English leagues and to try and get back to the Premier League.
“The owners were great, they were very clear in what they want for the club.
“They were brilliant and I hope I can help, and the boys here can help me.”
Swansea boss Alan Sheehan said: “Adam’s all-round ability and his experience at the highest level make him a quality addition to our squad, and his signing is an indication of our ambitions for the club moving forward.
“We are delighted to have secured his services.
“He is an ambitious young player who wants to play a big role in what we are trying to build at Swansea, and his movement and ability to stretch defences will be a real asset to us.”
Celtic posted on X: “Thank you and good luck to Adam Idah, who has joined Swansea City on a permanent transfer.”
The 24-year-old struck nine goals in 19 games in his initial loan spell in 23/24.
That included a dramatic late winner in the Scottish Cup final against Rangers that season.
It convinced Celts to splash a massive £9m on the forward last summer, and he managed 20 goals in his first full campaign at Parkhead.
But there were frustrations around Idah’s inability to fully replace Kyogo Furuhashi when he departed in January, with Daizen Maeda’s form making him the main man in the Hoops’ attack.
And this season didn’t start well for Idah either, as he failed to score in his four appearances and missed a penalty in Celtic’s Champions League play-off shootout defeat to Kairat Almaty.
That loss of form meant Celts greenlit the Irish international’s departure, with Swansea boss Alan Sheehan targeting his compatriot.
But the Irish striker was left in limbo as although he agreed a medical and personal terms, Celtic delayed the move going through.
Brendan Rodgers wanted in a replacement and chased Anderlecht’s Kasper Dolberg but that move seems to have fallen through with Dolberg choosing Ajax instead.
The Danish international has featured for the likes of Ajax, Sevilla and Nice, and struck 24 times in Belgium last season.
Celtic are now chasing a striker with hours left remaining in the window.
They have been linked with a loan move for Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana.
