IT took Alfredo Morelos a while to get settled following his Rangers exit in May 2023.
And after enjoying two trophy-laden years back in Colombia, his future has once again been thrown into doubt.
Morelos, 29, spent six years with Rangers between 2017 and 2023.
Signed from Finnish club HJK for just £1million, he became a huge fans’ favourite at Ibrox.
Morelos struck 124 goals in 269 games for the Gers and was a key part of the side that won the Premiership title in 2021.
He’s also the Light Blues’ all-time leading goalscorer in European competition.

Morelos was one of many big names to leave Rangers at the end of the 2022/23 season when his contract expired.
Despite his success at Ibrox, the Colombia international had to wait almost four months to find a new club.
He was snapped-up in September 2023 by Brazilian giants Santos on a free transfer.
His time with Santos proved a nightmare, however.
The Brazilian season was coming to a close and Morelos’ early days at Santos were blighted by injury.
Morelos was part of the Santos side that ended up being relegated to the second tier for the first time in the club’s history.
He accepted a wage cut following the relegation but ended up being briefly banished from the first team squad for so called ‘technical reasons’ in April 2024 before making a brief return to the fold prior to his exit.
In July last year, he returned to Colombia with Atletico Nacional on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Rediscovering some solid form, Morelos struck 11 goals in 28 games as Nacional won a league and cup double.
In the 2025 season, Morelos found the net 21 times in all competitions – his most prolific season since the 2019/20 campaign with Rangers.
While Atletico Nacional couldn’t retain their league title, they won two cup competitions.
Morelos was at the centre of wild celebrations just last week as Nacional beat rivals Independiente Medellin to retain the Copa Colombia.
The striker was, however, still only on loan at Santos although it seemed like had no future in Brazil.
Atletico Nacional have also been keen to sign Morelos permanently.
There has now reportedly been an unexpected twist, however.
That’s because while it seemed like Morelos had no future at Santos, that might not be the case after all.
Colombian outlet Semana claim that Santos boss Juan Pablo Vojvoda, who was only appointed in the summer, wants to ‘keep Morelos close’ in order to ‘evaluate’ him with a view to including him in his squad going forward.
While Morelos’ contract expires at the end of this month, Santos reportedly have the option to trigger a further year.
The Colombian report says the twist of the Santos coach wanting to take a close look at Morelos is a “drastic turn” and a “decision that complicates everything.”
Atletico Nacional remain keen to sign Morelos either on a fresh loan or permanent deal and not having him back for their 2026 season would present a massive blow.
