By Rubén Morales Iglesias: 🇧🇿 Belizean boxing star Amir “King Mir” Rudon endured the toughest night of his career on Saturday at Swift Hall, Belize City, when he was knocked out by Mexican champion Carlos Elvira in the final round of their clash for the WBC Central American Boxing Federation (FECARBOX) Silver Super Lightweight title

Rudon, who entered the bout with an unbeaten record of 9 wins, 4 by knockout, had controlled much of the fight. He was ahead on the scorecards through six rounds and looked poised to extend his streak. But a heavy shot in round seven staggered him, and Elvira pressed forward. In round eight, Elvira landed a decisive blow that left Rudon unresponsive for a while, forcing medical staff to intervene immediately.
The Belizean was stretchered out of the ring as a precaution, but he signaled a thumbs‑up to reassure fans.
“It’s boxing. It only takes one punch to change the trajectory of the fight,” Rudon told News 5 Live afterwards. “In the seventh round I got hit with a shot. I got hurt and then in the eighth round he capitalized on that. It’s a part of the sport. My spirits are up. I’m healthy. We’ll be back stronger than ever.”
“It’s my first loss in my boxing career … but it changes nothing. The wins didn’t make me, so a loss can’t break me. I’ll always give you guys the best and the best is still yet to come for Belizean boxing.”
The sold‑out crowd at Swift Hall had come to witness Rudon’s bid for regional glory, a moment that would show how far Belizean boxing has come in recent years. Rudon, who began fighting at age 12, has become the face of the sport locally, carrying national hopes into regional competition. His December 2024 victory over Mexican Alejandro “El Niño” Pacheco had extended his record to 8–0 and set the stage for Saturday’s title opportunity.
“All those who watched it at home, they’re the reason why I do it,” Rudon added. “This is just a small hurdle, a small step back for a major comeback.”
