Anguillan cyclist, Delroy Carty, put on a dominant display in the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union (ABWU) Invitational Race held on Sunday, emerging over winner in a time of 2:42:27.66.
One of eight overseas cyclists competing in the 58 miles event, Carty who competed in the Elite Male division, finished just ahead of Antiguan Wayne Henry who registered a time of 2:45:09.25 competing in the Masters Class. Anguillan, Patrick Niles (2:45:11.49) and Antiguan Randy Simon (2:45:40.52) were third and fourth respectively. Abbiel Flemming (2:47:04.46) of Antigua, rounds off the top five.





St. Vincent & the Grenadines’ Zefal Bailey, registered a time of 2:50:36.26, finished just outside the top five while Sherwin Osborne (2:50:37.28) of Anguilla, Jyme Bridges Jr (2:50:44.20), Robert Marsh (2:50:52.51) and national junior cyclist, Tahje Browne (2:50:58.05) all of Antigua were seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th respectively.
There were commendable performances by national junior riders Jomari King (2:50:59.80) and Aiden Tonge (2:53:10.54) who both completed the gruelling race in under three hours.
Young Antiguan rider, Elite Thomas, finished ahead of the pack in the Cadet 11-14 category as he completed a shortened version of the course. Thomas registered a time of 1:11:28.27 to claim the top podium spot and finished ahead of Jahaziel Santana (1:21:13.79) and Benjamin Carr (1:22:48.93) who were second and third, respectively. Luis Ozuna and Alexis Bastardo finished fourth and fifth.
In the Sports Class, Steve Scott proved too much for his competitors, clocking a time of 2:18:27.36 to win what was also a shortened version of the 58-miles event. Along with Brent George (2:44:28.64), Tyson Robinson (2:46:20.81), Dexter Simmons (2:48:42.07) and Avery Thomas (2:50:40.13) they rounded out the top five.
