The two-time Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association Champions Antigua and Barbuda Men’s Volleyball team arrived in Leon, Mexico on Saturday, ready to compete in the XVIII Pan American Cup.
The team departed Antigua on Friday and will compete from August 24th to September 1st in Group A alongside volleyball powerhouses United States, Venezuela, and Cuba. Their challenging schedule begins Tuesday, August 26th against Cuba, followed by the United States on Wednesday, August 27th, and concludes against Venezuela on Thursday, August 28th.
The 14-man squad is led by Head Coach Sabbatini Augusto, Assistant Coach Carl Williams, and includes liberos George Freeman and Deanor Sharpe, middle blockers Dwight Bonnie, Collin Thomas, and Yashin Auguste, outside hitters Adrian Constant, Cairon Dave, and Ewrin Mathurín, setters Barrymore Darcy and Miguel Lugo, and middle blockers/opposites Jervon Carbon and Kemani Joseph.
The team, ranging in age from 17 to 38 years old with heights from 175cm to 194cm, brings the confidence of back-to-back ECVA titles into their toughest competition yet, where competing against continental giants will provide invaluable experience for the program’s continued development regardless of results.
