National and FC Aston Villa midfielder Tyrik “Castro” Hughes has signed a two-year contract with Spanish football club, Lorca Deportiva.
The club confirmed the signing on it’s social media pages on August 17, describing the Antiguan as ‘an absolute international with his national team’. Hughes has also played with the Antigua and Barbuda National Under-20 squad.
He joins fellow Aston Villa teammate, Sean Tomlinson, who also joined the club on a two-year contract in late July. Both players are signed with the reserve team of the Preferente Autonómica.
According to the club’s website, the Antiguan duo was able to convince both Sporting Director David Navarro and first-team coach Sebas López on-site this summer by assisting Jacques Passy, coach of the Antigua and Barbuda national team, in two qualifying matches for next year’s World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
