Barbados Under-19s Men were crowned champions of the West Indies Rising Stars Men’s Under-19 Championship following a confident six-wicket triumph over USA Under-19s Men in the final of the tournament staged at the Conaree Sports Club in Conaree, St. Kitts on July 24.
Winning the toss and opting to bat, USA posted 212 all out in 48.2 overs with their best effort coming from Sahil Garg hitting a top score of 40 from 58 deliveries. Sabrish Prasad contributed with 27 off 33 while Nitish Sudini made 24 off 27.
Jakeem Pollard and Zachary Carterwere the pick of the bowlers for Barbados, claiming three wickets for 42 runs from 8.2 overs and three wickets for 46 runs from 10 overs respectively. Joshua Dorne grabbed two for 17 in six overs.
When their turn at the crease arrived, Barbados were led by Dorne who made 55 from 82 deliveries and Shaquan Belle who added 45 from 41 balls as they reached their target at 215 for four in just 38.2 overs.
Zachary Carter with a quickfire 34 from 14 deliveries and Micah Greenidge with 32 from 36, also contributed to the successful run chase. Sabrish Prasad was the top bowler for the USA with two for 27 in 10 overs.
In other results, Windward Islands defeated Jamaica by 76 runs to finish third while Guyana beat T&T by five wickets in the fifth place contest. Leeward Islands finished seven following a 66 runs triumph over USA 2.
