By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize City Thunderbolts won their second consecutive game in the Belize Premier Basketball League with a dominant performance against the Punta Gorda Panthers, securing a resounding 55-point victory—106-51—at the Belize City Civic Center on Thursday evening.
From the opening tip-off, the Thunderbolts set the tone, overwhelming the Panthers with relentless offense and suffocating defense. Victor Evans led the charge with 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists, shooting an efficient 58.3% from the field, including 5-for-8 from three-point range. Tyrone Hall contributed 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Michael Caseras added 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals.
The Thunderbolts controlled the boards, outrebounding the Panthers 67-39, with Matthew Young securing a game-high 16 rebounds, reinforcing his dominance in the paint. Their defensive pressure resulted in 16 steals, leading to numerous fast-break opportunities.
Despite a solid effort from Dane Bradley, who led the Panthers with 15 points, and Jonathan Guzman, who contributed 10 points and 6 rebounds, Punta Gorda struggled to establish an offensive rhythm against the Thunderbolts’ aggressive defense. The Panthers shot just 25.7% from the field compared to the Thunderbolts’ 48.9%, making it difficult to keep pace.
The Thunderbolts also shared the ball effectively, finishing the game with 22 assists. They also recorded 7 blocked shots, limiting the Panthers’ chances in the paint.
With the victory, the Thunderbolts improve to 2-0 in the BPBL and set their sights on their next game against the San Pedro Tiger Sharks on Saturday, May 24.
