By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The action in the Belize District Football Association (BDFA) First Division Championship intensifies on Labour Day, Thursday, May 1, at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City, as teams prepare for another set of matchups.
The teams look to build on last weekend’s performances. At 2:00 p.m., Survivors FC, coming off a frustrating 2-2 draw with Old Road Defenders after squandering a two-goal lead, face Hattieville United Youth Sporting Club, who narrowly fell 1-0 to Reggae Boyz. Survivors will once again rely on Kennard Armstrong, who bagged a brace last match, while Hattieville will be looking for redemption and hoping for a stronger offensive display.
At 4:00 p.m., Old Road Defenders, fresh from their comeback against Survivors, will take on Kelly Street Bombers, who are looking to bounce back after a 3-1 defeat to Tut Bay FC. Kelly Street Bombers will be counting on Steven Baizar to lead their attack, while Old Road’s Jamal Tillett, who scored twice in the previous game, aims to produce another impressive performance.
The final game of the evening at 6:00 p.m. features a surging Tut Bay FC against Caesar Ridge. Tut Bay’s dominant 3-1 victory over Kelly Street Bombers last week highlighted their attacking firepower, with Raymond Gentle Jr. scoring in the very first minute and both Calvin and Devin Thurton adding to the tally. Caesar Ridge, who rested on the weekend, will need a strong defensive performance to contain Tut Bay’s high-scoring attack.
With the BDFA First Division Championship heating up, Labour Day promises to deliver another trip of high-intensity matches at the Marion Jones Sports Complex.
