By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The wait is over, and the countdown is on for the start of the 2025 Belize Premier Basketball League (BPBL) season on Friday, May 16. The new league has officially revealed its schedule for the first three weeks, promising intense matchups on the court.
With seven teams competing across two divisions—the North-South (Toucan) Division and the East-West (Mayan) Division—the battle for supremacy is set to be fierce. The Toucan Division features San Pedro Tiger Sharks, EZ Investment Dangriga Dream Ballers, Punta Gorda Panthers, and Corozal Cerros Suns, while the Mayan Division includes Cayo Western Ballaz, Belize City Thunderbolts, and Belmopan Capital City Kings.
Opening Week tips off Friday, May 16, with a battle between Belize City Thunderbolts and EZ Investment Dream Ballers at the Belize City Civic Center, starting at 9:00 pm. This matchup will set the stage for an action-packed season filled with fierce rivalries and unforgettable performances.
The excitement continues on Saturday, May 17, with Cayo Western Ballaz taking on Belmopan Capital City Kings at 8:00 pm at Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio, while the San Pedro Tiger Sharks visit the Cerros Suns at the Andres Campos Civic Center in Corozal Town at the same time.
Week 2 brings even more action, beginning with Thunderbolts going head-to-head with the Punta Gorda Panthers at 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 22, at the Belize City Civic Center. Then, on Saturday, May 24, at 8:00 pm, Dream Ballers clash with Western Ballaz at the Russell ‘Chiste’ Garcia Auditorium in Dangriga, while the Tiger Sharks host the Thunderbolts at the San Pedro High School Auditorium in San Pedro.
The momentum carries into Week 3, with the Kings facing the Western Ballaz at the UB Gym in Belmopan at 8:00 pm on Friday, May 30, while the Suns battle the Thunderbolts at home in Corozal at 8:00 pm on Saturday, May 31.
The BPBL’s near-nationwide reach should ensure basketball fans across Belize can experience the excitement firsthand. With new rosters and fresh rivalries, the league is ushering in a new era of competition, where high-energy clashes are expected to define the 2025 season.
