By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Six young Belizean cyclists departed for Bridgetown, Barbados on Wednesday to represent the Jewel at the 2025 Caribbean Cycling Union (CCU) Junior Championships — an annual regional event that brings together top youth talent from across the Caribbean.

The Belize delegation, announced by the Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB), includes five athletes in the Junior Division (ages 17–18): three male riders — Keith Enwright Jr, Devyn Major, and Jamaal Tablada — and two female riders — Irene Baki and Chelsy Gillett. In the Youth Division (ages 15–16), Lliani Choto will represent Belize in the female category. These riders will compete in both the Individual Time Trial (I.T.T) and Road Race (R.R) events on a 5.7-kilometer course mapped out in Bridgetown.
🕒 Event Breakdown:
Individual Time Trial (I.T.T): Saturday, August 30, 2025
- Juvenile (15-16) & Junior Females (17-18): 2 laps (11.4 km)
- Junior Males (17–18): 4 laps (22.8 km)
Road Race (R.R): Sunday, August 31, 2025
- Juvenile (15-16) and Junior Females (17-18): 12 laps (68.4 km)
- Junior Males (17–18): 14 laps (79.8 km)
The CFB highlighted the athletes’ dedication and recent performances, noting their selection reflects “the hard work, dedication, and commitment of these athletes, as well as the support of their families, coaches, and those who made this journey possible.”
“Participation in this event marks an important step in the development of Belize’s youth cyclists, providing them with the opportunity to measure their skills against their Caribbean counterparts, foster regional camaraderie, and build the foundation for future international competition,” the Cycling Federation of Belize said.
The team is accompanied by Glen Flowers, President of the Cycling Federation of Belize; Rita Matute, serving as chaperone; and Ahmaad Cherrington, recipient of the Alfred Parks Memorial Foundation Award. According to CFB Secretary General Leticia Westby, the award is given to a young cyclist to provide firsthand experience of what international competition is like.
Team Belize’s participation reinforces the country’s presence in regional cycling. The CFB noted that the delegation — three young men and three young women as dictated by the CCU — represents a balanced group of emerging talents, each eager to gain valuable international experience and showcase their skills on behalf of Belize.
The Cycling Federation extended its best wishes to the athletes, urging Belizeans to rally behind them as they take on the Caribbean’s best.
