The Benna Girls have cemented themselves as genuine title contenders with two strong performances that have booked their place in the finals of the Turks and Caicos Islands Women’s International Festival Invitational on Sunday night, where they will face Turks & Caicos.
After their recent performance at home against Nicaragua in which they lost 4-0, the ladies rebounded with outstanding wins against the hosts and Renegades FC out of the Bahamas.
The tournament began with the Benna Girls triumphing emphatically by crushing Turks & Caicos 10-3 on Friday as Gabrielle DeSuza starred with five goals in a breathtaking individual performance that tore apart the Turks & Caicos defence. She was ably supported by strikes from Keitonya Skepple, Kai Jacobs, Zolique Samuel, and Nicelle Drew, which all found the back of the net, while an own goal compounded Turks & Caicos’ misery. Despite conceding three goals, the Benna Girls’ attacking strength outmatched their opponent’s defences.
Twenty-four hours later, they defeated Renegades FC 6-1 to punch their ticket to the finals. DeSuza continued where she left off from the last match with another hat-trick, taking her tournament tally to an impressive eight goals across two matches. Other goals in the match came from Jacobs, Skepple, and Nafisa Quashie who each contributed a goal, highlighting the team’s dominance overall in the short tournament.
