BETTING on Steven Gerrard becoming Rangers new manager has been suspended by bookmakers.
It’s after a “flood of money” has been put on the 45-year-old making a stunning return to Ibrox to replace the sacked Russell Martin.

Gerrard, who is set to hold talks with Rangers chiefs in London on Thursday, was as short as 1/8 to land the job before the market was suspended.
He is by far the bookies favourite with Hearts boss Derek McInnes and Kevin Muscat long odds at 11/1 and 12/1 respectively.
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “A flood of money on Wednesday for Steven Gerrard to replace Russell Martin as Rangers boss has meant we have shut down the next manager market overnight.
“Gerrard is due to hold talks with his former employers in the coming days, and having made the Liverpool legend as short as 1/8, we’ve now suspended betting.

“Derek McInnes (11/1), Kevin Muscat (12/1) and Sean Dyche (20/1) had been Gerrard’s closest rivals for the vacancy at the William Hill Premiership giants, but all have drifted in the last 24 hours.”
Gerrard first arrived at Rangers in the summer of 2018 and would go to on clinch the Scottish Premiership title in 2021 to stop Celtic winning a historic 10th consecutive league trophy.
He left for Aston Villa a few months later but was sacked less than a year into the job after winning just two league games in 12 at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.
The Liverpool and England legend then switched to Saudi Arabia to manage Al-Ettifaq, but parted company with the ambitious Middle East side at the start of this year after 18 months in charge.
Since then Gerrard has been out of management but revealed his desire to get back in on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, citing “unfinished business“.
He also said the club were a perfect match for him.
Gerrard is believed to have held talks with Rangers in the summer before Russell Martin was appointed.
Martin was sacked after the 1-1 draw with Falkirk and needed a police escort out of the Falkirk Stadium after an angry group of fans made a human blockade to prevent the team bus leaving.
His 123-day reign is the shortest of any permanent manager in the club’s history and he had a win rate of just 29 per cent.
