The 2025 Cool & Smooth ABBA Business Basketball League semifinals got underway on Saturday night with both higher seeds protecting home court in closely-contested opening games. Board of Education edged A & B Transport Board 66-59, while Sandals held off Richie’s Shooterz 62-53 to take 1-0 leads in their respective best-of-three series.
In the first semifinal, the Board of Education (BoE) relied on a balanced offensive attack led by Adonis Humphreys, who poured in a game-high 23 points to pace his team’s offense. Xavier Meade provided crucial secondary scoring with 20 points as the Board of Education built and maintained their advantage throughout the contest. Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board fought hard behind Lindsay McDonald‘s 19 points and Raymond Dickenson‘s 10-point contribution, but struggled to find consistent scoring from their supporting cast. The seven-point margin proved too difficult to overcome as BoE executed down the stretch to secure the opening victory.

The second semifinal saw the Playoff title holders Sandals emerge victorious in an even tighter defensive battle against Richie’s Shooterz. T-Shawn Lewis starred for Sandals with a commanding 24-point performance, showcasing his scoring ability from multiple areas on the court. Keroi Lee chipped in 12 points to provide the necessary support. Richie’s Shooterz stayed within striking distance thanks to Tajahron Davis‘ 16 points and Cohen Desouza‘s 13-point effort, but their offense stalled in crucial moments. Sandals’ defense tightened in the fourth quarter, holding Richie’s Shooterz to limited possessions and pulling away for the nine-point victory.
Both series now shift to Game 2, with BoE facing A & B Transport Board tonight at 8:30 p.m., while Sandals and Richie’s Shooterz will tip off at 7:30 p.m. The lower seeds will need to respond quickly to avoid falling into insurmountable 2-0 deficits as the semifinals continue.
