Bodden Town FC is back on top after capturing the Cayman Islands Football Association President’s Cup for the first time since 2014.
The ‘BT finest’ players have looked unstoppable all season, and during the President’s Cup final on Wednesday, 5 March, they stayed true to form against the oncoming Tigers FC.
Bodden Town bested Tigers FC 2-0 at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex to lift the prestigious trophy – a moment long overdue, according to team captain Ramon Sealy.
“It means a lot for the team,” Sealy said. “It has been awhile. We always say we’re gonna do it. We always have the talent, it just never came off for us, so we had to fight to get over the line tonight.”
Bodden Town veteran Casey McLaughlin wasted little time giving his team the lead just six minutes into the match.
The game was highly competitive with Tigers looking like they would equalise on several occasions, but just before the final whistle blew, Darvin Watson put those hopes to bed with a goal.
“It’s a testament to all the work and effort that we put in training throughout the season,” Sealy added. “The ups and the downs, this all makes it worth it.”
Bodden Town FC remain undefeated but are still two points behind 345 FC in the CIFA Premier League table.
Since 2011, only Bodden Town and Scholars ISC have won the Premier League, with Scholars on top for the last four seasons.
But with the BT boys’ recent form, they could very well be looking at more trophies this season, particularly the premiership.
