IT’S very unlikely that former Rangers star Fraser Aird will play in more wild conditions than he did in the Canadian Premier League final on Sunday night.
The clash between Aird’s Cavalry and Atletico Ottawa – owned by Spanish giants Atletico Madrid – was played under a thick blanket of snow and it finished over four hours after it was scheduled to kick off.

The blizzard like conditions meant the game had to be stopped five times during 90 minutes using snow blowers and shovels to clear the field and lines.
Even the Atletico goalkeeper Nathan Ingham joined in with the shovelling.
Despite the treacherous weather the players didn’t seem fazed.
Aird, who had five years at Rangers between 2012 and 2017, opened the scoring in the final from the penalty spot.

Wearing just a short-sleeved top and shorts, Aird celebrated by doing a knee slide into the thick, white snow.
‘Fraser Aird is just built different’, proclaimed the official X account of Canada’s Premier League.
That gave Cavalry the lead in the final, but they were pegged back by a stunning equaliser when David Rodriguez produced a bicycle kick.
The ball was half cleared by the defence before it was launched back in, it took a bounce in the box as players tried desperately to make contact before Rodriguez did in some style, rifling the ball into the roof of the net.
“The most incredible goal in CPL history has levelled this final,” beamed the commentator.
That was the way game remained during the regulation 90 minutes so extra time followed.
But not before a delay of nearly an hour as snow ploughs came on and cleared the field.
In the end it was to be heartbreak for Aird as Rodriguez scored again in extra time, with a deft chip over the goalkeeper to give Ottawa a 2-1 win.
