Aspiring young basketball players in the Cayman Islands will have a chance to learn from a professional basketball player at the Camana Bay Basketball Camp taking place through Friday 1 Aug.
Utah Jazz forward Kenyon “KJ” Martin Jr. is on hand to offer the participants an unparalleled opportunity for skill development on the final day of the annual summer camp.
To ensure tailored instruction, the camp is split into two daily sessions with the morning session, 8:30am to 12pm, for those aged 7-12, and the afternoon session, 12:30 pm to 4pm, for 12 to 17-year-olds.
Twelve-year-olds have the unique flexibility to choose the session that best suits their confidence and skill level, allowing for optimal growth.
This year’s camp is under the expert guidance of Phillip Calvert, an international coach renowned for his work with the Jr. NBA.
The camp has a long-standing tradition of drawing top basketball talent, with a roster of past attendees that includes NBA legends like eight-time All-Star Vince Carter.
Other past participants include Nick Anderson, Tobias Harris, Ed Davis, Al-Farouq Aminu, Cody Zeller, Royce O’Neale, Dwayne Bacon, Jeremy Sochan and Blake Wesley.
The camp curriculum features a dynamic blend of drills and live games, providing a comprehensive environment for skill refinement.
The Jr. NBA program in the Cayman Islands was first launched in 2023 through a collaborative effort between Dart and the NBA.
This ongoing partnership is dedicated to expanding basketball’s reach in the islands, providing invaluable resources and tools to foster the sport’s growth.
Beyond fundamental skills, the program instills crucial core values of the game, including teamwork, respect, determination and community.
