Trinidad and Tobago men’s football team full back Rio Cardines made a substitute appearance for Crystal Palace in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on October 29 as they earned a memorable 3-0 victory over a struggling Liverpool team at Anfield, England.
The 19-year-old Cardines, who has quickly become a favourite for coach Dwight Yorke with the national team after debuting earlier this year, entered the game in the 74th minute for in-form Colombian right back Daniel Munoz. At that stage, Palace already held a 2-0 lead thanks to a first-half double from Senegalese attacker Ismaila Sarr. In the 79th minute, Livepool’s comeback hopes were dealt a serious blow when Amara Nallo was sent off just 12 minutes after coming off the bench, In the 88th minute, the visiting Palace sealed their passage through to the quarterfinals when striker Yeremy Pino scored in the 88th minute.
Palace will now face fellow London team Arsenal in the quarterfinal on December 16. In the other quarterfinal matches, Manchester City will face Brentford, Cardiff City will tackle Chelsea and Fulham will take on holders Newcastle.
For Cardines, it’s his second first-team appearance this season after making his Palace debut in a cameo away to Dynamo Kyiv in the UEFA Conference League on October 2.
The defeat for Liverpool comes on the back of four straight Premier League defeats, including a 2-1 loss to Palace last month.
