The Cayman Islands Sailing Club, founded in 1965, is gearing up for a North Sound Regatta in celebration of its 60th anniversary.
Starting from 1:30pm, races will be held in the North Sound, off Selkirk Drive in Red Bay, on Sunday, 1 June, and organisers say everyone is welcome to join the celebration.
In addition to races, a post-race social will be held at 4-7pm at the clubhouse.
The event will feature sailors of all levels and boat types ranging from catboats, Hobies, Hartleys, Lasers, Optimists, Picos, Cruisers, J/22s and more.
The Cayman Islands Sailing Club, the oldest sporting club on the island, began its operations six decades ago at the old Beach Club Colony site, which is now The WaterColours, on Seven Mile Beach. It relocated to its present location in Red Bay in the late 1980s.
Historically, one of the biggest annual sporting events has been the sailing club’s round-the-island Easter Regatta, which in earlier days involved catboats, Sunfish and an assortment of small boats, but has grown over the years to include a wider variety of craft.
All interested owners of sailing vessels who want to be a part of the sailing camaraderie are encouraged to contact Denise Couch at [email protected] to register. For more information, visit www.sailing.ky or call 947-7913.
