The Cayman Islands men’s national team wrapped up their week of international football friendlies at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex with an even standing of a win and a loss.
Having defeated the British Virgin Islands twice – both by 1–0 margins – during their 2024 CONCACAF Nations League campaign, the Cayman Islands fell short to repeat that success in the opening matchday friendly on 12 Nov., ultimately losing 2–1.
Securing the first half leading goal for the Cayman side was Elijah Seymour.
Three days later, the Cayman squad delivered a dominant performance to close out the series, securing a decisive 4-0 win against Anguilla.
The win was spearheaded by Gunnar Studenhofft, who netted two goals in the match.
Zachary Scott added to the number through a penalty while Owen Ebanks accounted for the remaining goal.
“We feel really good,” said Scott in a Cayman Islands Football Association press release. “Feel like we deserve a good 4-0 win after that loss (on Wednesday)… Today we took our chances, so it feels really good to get the win in front of the home crowd,” he added.
This closing match secured Cayman’s men head coach, Dougie Rowe’s, first victory which coincided with the senior national team debuts of four Cayman players: Owen Ebanks, Jaydon McField, Gonzalo McLaughlin Jr. and Jaggar Alban.
“It feels good to have young players coming into the squad… some fresh blood into the team, some good energy,” added Scott. “I’m really proud of them, obviously.”
The Cayman Islands Football Association says that these international friendlies are part of the official FIFA match calendar, giving participating teams – which included the Bahamas – the chance to earn valuable experience and ranking points ahead of 2026 competitions.
