The Cayman Motoring Federation wrapped up its final autocross event of the year, attracting nine entries in various categories.
This event marked “one of its most engaging community motorsport days to date”, the federation said in a press release.
Drivers competed across three categories during the 16 Nov. event, showcasing skill, control and motorsport passion on the autocross course.
In the heavy/EV category, the top spot was secured by Rory Scheepers in his Audi Q3 with a time of 64.393 seconds, followed by Damean Simpson in the BMW X5 at 71.469 seconds.
The medium power/saloons category had James Taggart taking first place, driving a Porsche Boxster to a 64.615-second finish.
Jane Scaletta, president of the Cayman Motoring Federation, also in a Porsche Boxster, claimed second with 72.71 seconds, while Kim Rhone rounded out the top three in an Audi A4 at 84.251 seconds.
The high power/exotic category was led by Adis Kevorkian, who posted the fastest time of the day in a Volkswagen GTI with a scorching 59.09 seconds.
David Ledger, also driving a Volkswagen GTI, took second place at 66.58 seconds, and Ricardo Dennis finished third with a 70.45-second run in his Toyota GT Turbo Starlet.
For the Cayman Motoring Federation, autocross represents a valuable resource that extends past competitive racing, making a crucial contribution to improving road safety across the Cayman Islands.
“By giving drivers a controlled, supervised environment to test vehicle handling, braking, and maneuvering skills, CMF helps participants become more aware, confident, and responsible behind the wheel. Many drivers report improved reaction times, better hazard anticipation, and a deeper respect for safe driving practices on public roads,” the federation said in the release.
At the event, the federation demonstrated its dedication to sustainability and its Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile – better known as FIA – Environmental Accreditation efforts, the release said.
The organisers implemented several eco-conscious practices, such as minimising paper waste by utilising digital timing sheets and registrations, promoting ridesharing among competitors, and ensuring the reuse of essential event equipment like cones, timers and tyres.
Furthering this initiative, the federation collaborated with Refuel Cayman to conduct a sustainability survey, offering $25 Refuel fuel gift cards to incentivise community feedback and engagement in greener event practices.
The federation is now gearing up for an expanded 2026 season, which will feature six autocross events structured around a new league component, allowing drivers to battle for points across the entire year.
Moreover, the federation is exploring the integration of karting into its programmes to “enhance driver development and provide new opportunities for motorsport participation across all ages”.
