CELTIC Legends just about got the better of the Man Utd Legends squad that travelled to Glasgow this weekend.
It took penalties to find a winner between the two sides who were filled with iconic stars of years gone by.
United found themselves 2-0 up as the half time whistle went, but goals in the last 20 minutes from Scott McDonald and Shaun Maloney brought Celtic back on level terms.
In the end it was the goalkeeper show with Joe Hart and Artur Boruc both involved in some shootout drama.
The Celtic shot stopping heroes were taking it turn about in net for the spot kicks, but Hart even stepped up to take one himself.
The Englishman blasted the ball high and wide, making it two times from two in a Celtic jersey the keeper has failed to hit the target in a shootout.
He stepped up against Aberdeen in the 2024 Scottish Cup semi-final and rattled the post.
Luckily for Hart, Artur Boruc was on hand to save ex-Celt Tyler Blackett’s spot kick to bring the Hoops back level in the tense ending to the match.
Hart followed the same script as the Aberdeen shootout though, as the next spot kick he was in between the sticks for was saved by the former England international.
That left Lee Naylor with the opportunity to win it for the Hoops, and he made no mistake in converting.
Simon Donnelly, Charlie Mulgrew and Scott McDonald joined Naylor on the scoresheet in the shootout.
The vistors’ kicks were converted by Michael Carrick, Nani and Chris Eagles, with Blackett and Darren Gibson unable to find the back of the net.
Some fans were hoping that the first team were watching on and taking note today as they stumbled against Kairat Almaty on penalties a few weeks ago.
One player who was in attendance today was injured star Jota.
He was snapped watching on from the stands as he battles back from a serious injury that will keep him out until January at the earliest.
