ODSONNE EDOUARD is finally closing in on a move away from Crystal Palace and will leave England altogether in a stunning swoop, it’s being claimed.
The Celtic hero is set to end his Selhurst Park nightmare after four years down south, joining the club from the Hoops back in 2021.
Out-of-favour Edouard, 27, hasn’t played for Palace since last August as he was shipped out on loan to Leicester City last season.
But things didn’t improve for the Frenchman at the King Power stadium as he remained a backup option for the Foxes and wasn’t favoured by Rudd van Nistelrooy when he took charge in November.
He hasn’t kicked a ball since coming off the bench as a substitute in the 88th minute against Manchester United that same month.
But Edouard will be hoping to get his career back on track in his first move away from the UK since leaving PSG to join Celtic initially on loan in 2017 – then permanently the following year.
The striker is believed to be on his way to Spain for the first time of his career.
According to FootMercato, Edouard is set to be announced as Girona’s newest recruit in a surprise swap deal.
It’s stated that the forward will move to the La Liga club for around €6million (£5.2m), while Arnau Martinez will head in the other direction in a deal worth around €10million (£8.7m).
It’s a move that will see the Frenchman link up with former Aberdeen hitman Bojan Miovski.
The two players have something in common – other than both being strikers.
Aside from that, they are two players who Celtic fans have been urging Brendan Rodgers to sign in recent months.
Miovski was a target for the Hoops when he left Pittodrie for Girona last year, while Celtic fans have been crying out for Edouard’s return this summer.
Rodgers has been hunting for a striker since January and could still sign another before the end of the window, despite already landing Shin Yamada and Callum Osmand.
Rodgers was the manager who brought Edouard to Glasgow eight years ago and he’s been linked with a return swoop for the hitman all summer.
He did, however, confirm last month that he WASN’T looking at a deal for the former fan favourite.
Rodgers said: “Odsonne hasn’t been on my radar, to be fair.
“I obviously know him but it’s about a player who will fit into the structure of the team.”
