By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) takes the field Saturday night against Panama in their final World Cup qualifying match at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan. The match kick off at 7:0 pm, and Belize will be hoping for a positive result in front of their home crowd.

Despite a difficult campaign with no points from their previous three matches, Belize is determined to fight for redemption. With head coach Daniel Bartolotta under pressure, a strong performance could shape the future of the team.
Lineup: A single change for Belize
Bartolotta sticks mostly to his previous selection, making just one adjustment to the lineup that faced Montserrat. The veteran Woodrow West starts in goal, backed by a defensive line of Freybin Pagoada, Deshawon Nembhard, and Darrel Myvett.
The midfield is anchored by Jordy Polanco, Alence Ayala, Nahjib Guerra, and Izon Gill, while Krisean Lopez, Horace Avila, and Eldon Reneau complete the attacking trio up front. The only change sees Avila replacing Carlos Bernardez in the forward line.
Panama’s Starting XI
Panama arrives in Belmopan as one of the strongest sides in Concacaf Group D, looking to secure a decisive result. They enter the match with Luis Mejía in goal, while the defensive line features César Blackman, Carlos Harvey, José Córdoba, and Fidel Escobar.
In midfield, Panama relies on Cristian Martínez, César Yanis, Aníbal Godoy, and José Luis Rodríguez to control possession and dictate the tempo. Up front, Eduardo Guerrero and Cecilio Waterman lead the attack, aiming to penetrate Belize’s defense.
Tactical Decisions: Who will step up?
Bartolotta’s squad faces a tough challenge against Panama, one of the strongest sides in Concacaf Group D. Belize will need a disciplined defensive showing from Pagoada, Nembhard, and Myvett to counter Panama’s offensive threats.
Polanco and Guerra are expected to be key figures in midfield, setting the tempo and distributing play, while Lopez and Avila must work cohesively to create attacking opportunities. The return of Desmond Wade could provide added attacking depth if Bartolotta chooses to make adjustments during the match.
Midfielder Moises Hernandez is likely to be introduced in the second half to strengthen the center of the pitch, providing fresh legs and added stability. His presence could help Belize maintain control and transition more effectively against Panama’s pressing attack.
Forwards Warren Moss and Jaheim Mena brought a surge of energy when they came off the bench against Montserrat, despite the team’s challenges. If given the opportunity tonight, they could be instrumental in shifting the game’s momentum.
Belize looks for home support in tough battle
Panama enter the match as the clear favourite, but Belize’s home-field advantage could be a factor, with passionate supporters expected to rally behind their team. A strong showing would not only be a morale boost but could signal a fresh start for BMNT’s future.
The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) and the Belmopan City Council have organized the Jaguars Mini Fan Fair outside the stadium, offering food, drinks, and entertainment. Gates opened at 5:00 p.m., with tickets available at $25 at the gate.
As the countdown to kickoff begins, all eyes will be on the BMNT—can they rise to the occasion and deliver a performance to remember?
