Emerging men’s cyclist and 2024 National Time Trial champion, Tahje Browne, has been included in a two-man team to fly the country’s flag at the Caribbean Junior Road Cycling Championships in Barbados on August 30 and 31, while veteran rider and reigning National Road Race champion, Jyme Bridges Jr, heads a four-man team in training for the Caribbean Elite Road Cycling Championships slated for October 12 in Belize.
This was revealed by President of the Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Federation (ABCF), St Clair Williams, who said that Browne, who’s currently in Italy training with professional cycling club Zappi, will join one other junior rider for the event at the end of the month.
“The juniors are coming up at the end of the month in Barbados where we just recently decided who are the juniors that will be representing us and we have two in the name of Aiden Tonge and we also have Tahje Browne so those two will be going over to Barbados at the end of the month to represent Antigua and Barbuda in the Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships,” he said.

“In addition, we have a group in training for the elite and that is going to take place in Belize in October. We have in training, Jyme Bridges [Jr], Alexander Whittaker, Jaheim Telemaque and we also have Newell Mack,” he added.
The junior event, which will be hosted by the Barbados Cycling Union, will be held at the Graeme Hall Course, while the elite event will bring more that 130 participants together and is being held in collaboration with the Caribbean Cycling Union and COPACI (the Pan American Cycling Confederation).
Williams said the same criteria was utilized in selecting all of the cyclists.
“We follow their training schedules and normally we use an app called Strava from which we can track everybody’s training, their distances, average speed, their heartrate and everything you can think about like how fast you pedal the bike and things like that. We look at their performances in the races they would have done locally or regionally and their fitness level leading up to the event as well,” he said.
Cyclists will compete on the local front this weekend when they race in a time trial starting from the Pan Am Base to Jabberwock Beach and back.
