The Antigua and Barbuda senior men’s volleyball team, Dadli Spikers, were outdone by a more aggressive and technically sound Cuba men’s team in their opening clash of the 18th Pan American Cup in Leon, Mexico on Tuesday night, losing in straight sets at the Domo de la Feria.
Contesting Group A, Antigua and Barbuda went under 25-19 in the opening set before suffering an even worse defeat, 25-10, in the second set. Cuba then claimed the decisive third and final set by a 25-17 margin.
Also on opening day, hosts Mexico blanked Suriname 3-0, Canada defeated Puerto Rico 3-1, Chile beat the Dominican Republic 3-1, Colombia dominated Guatemala 3-0 and Venezuela had the better of the USA in a straight sets rally.
Following their scheduled encounter against USA on Wednesday, Antigua and Barbuda will face Venezuela on Thursday.
