DANNY ROHL is sensationally back in the frame to be named next Rangers boss.
SunSport can exclusively reveal Ibrox chiefs have reignited talks with the German after negotiations with Kevin Muscat collapsed.
We broke the news last week that the Aussie Shanghai Port head coach had emerged as the leading contender to replace sacked Russell Martin.
That saw the ex-Sheffield Wednesday boss fall out of the reckoning.
But we can now reveal that talks Rohl, 36, are NOT dead in the water and he’s now a contender again with Gers chairman Andrew Cavenagh coming to make an appointment in time for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Brann Bergen.
Under pressure club chiefs Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell were well down the road with Muscat, 52, having made him their No1 target.
However, with no deal officially rubber-stamped, the club continued talks with other options – with Rohl now back in with a chance of taking his place in the Ibrox hotseat.
Light Blues supporters have been left stunned by the turn of events over this weekend.
But Gers insiders insist the club are still close to making a managerial appointment this week after ditching talks with Muscat.
And Rohl is one of the names being discussed ay the highest level.
Steven Gerrard was the No1 choice immediately after Martin was sacked after just 123 days in charge.
But the Liverpool legend withdrew from discussions insisting the ‘timing’ wasn’t right.
Rohl then became the frontrunner but it seemed he had walked away from a deal.
Gers chairman Andrew Cavenagh then pinpointed Muscat as the man he wanted, a story first revealed by SunSport.
It was then reported elsewhere that a contract had been agreed with the Aussie.
But Muscat had not accepted the terms on offer and that led to a weekend of tense talks which have now broken down.
Gers have various applicants who have not yet been told they are out of the running.
But Rohl could get the job before this week’s Euro clash with Brann Bergen in Norway.
