The driver of the motorcar involved in a hit and run with national cyclist, Jomari King, has turned himself in to the police.
This is according to sources close to the incident who said the male driver, accompanied by his lawyer, went to the Police Headquarters on Thursday where he was questioned by officers about the incident. Up to the time of going to press however, no charges had been filed against the individual as reports indicate they would first have to return to the scene of the accident for further investigations.
Jomari, the son of senior national cyclist Omari King, was discharged from the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center on Wednesday after scans revealed he had no broken bones or other internal injuries following the hit and run incident in Collins on Wednesday morning.
The cyclist was reportedly struck by a motorcar while cycling with two other riders with further reports indicating that after the accident, the driver fled the scene. Onlookers were however, able to record the vehicle’s registration number.
Two other cyclists, Jyme Bridges Jr and Aiden Tonge were training alongside Jomari when the incident occurred but managed to escape unhurt. Police investigations into the accident are ongoing.
In June of 2023, national cyclist, Andre Simon, died following prolonged hospitalization after he was struck by a motorist in May of 2022 while cycling on the Sir George Walter Highway. Simon received head trauma and internal bleeding as a result of the crash, which occurred on Mother’s Day.
