Empire Trendsetters emerged winners in the first round of the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Female Knockout Classic following a 2-1 triumph over Cutting Edge in the final of the win-or-go-home formatted tournament played at the FA’s Technical Center on Sunday.
Trendsetters, on their way to the final, dispatched of Lady Fort Road by a 4-3 margin in the semis. They had beaten Lady Masters 4-3 on penalties after their opening clash ended 1-1. Lady Fort Road went straight to the semis after their intended opponents, Lady 5P’s Wadadli did not show for the contest.


Meanwhile, Cutting Edge enjoyed a 9-0 triumph over Young Warriors to reach the semis where they beat Wadadli United 2-1 on penalties. Wadadli United reached the semis without playing a match after Ottos Tigress was a no-show.
Trendsetters also dominated the individual awards with Karmiellia Hughes claiming the MVP prize. Nafisa Quashie (best striker), Ozora Roberts (best midfielder) and Anik Jarvis (best goalkeeper) all of Trendsetters, walked away with $200 each for copping the individual accolades. Abisha Henry of Cutting Edge won the best defender award.
The winning team received $2,500 while the second placed Cutting Edge, walked away with $1,500.
