IT’S a fairytale story which shows no signs of coming to an end any time soon.
But for one protagonist in Wrexham’s Hollywood-style journey through the divisions, all good things must come to an end.
That man is forgotten former Celtic star Eoghan O’Connell.
He’s featured in all THREE of the club’s successive promotions as the Welsh outfit climbed from the National League to the Championship like a knife through butter.
But with a move falling through shortly before the deadline, the former Hoops kid decided to rip up his contract in an attempt to move on to a new club outside the window.
Now 30, O’Connell signed from Charlton Athletic in January 2023, immediately chipping in with a winning goal on his debut away to Altrincham four days later.

He featured regularly in the title run-in, playing 15 times and scoring twice in total. O’Connell played 33 games in all competitions as we secured promotion to League One and then a further 41 games last season.
O’Connell, a cousin of Ireland and British and Irish Lions rugby hero Paul, made his debut under Neil Lennon back in 2014.
He moved on to Bury in 2017 after seven first team appearances and loan spells at Oldham, Walsall and his native Cork City.
Manager Phil Parkinson wrote: “I’d like to thank Eoghan for his contributions over the last two-and-a-half years, playing a part in all three of our promotions.
“We thought he had a move prior to the transfer window closing, but it didn’t materialise in time, and Eoghan has decided to part ways so he can look for the next challenge in his career.
“We all wish him well.”
