IT’S fair to say Russell Martin’s tactical ideas haven’t been to everyone’s liking since his arrival at Ibrox so far.
Or perhaps it’s just that the Gers haven’t quite got the players to carry out his instructions to the letter just yet.
Well whatever way you cut it, former Gers boss Alex McLeish has just added his name to the list of sceptics – even if he reckons it’s FAR too ealy to even consider parting company with their new head coach.
Martin still has the backing of the hierarchy at Ibrox after sporting director Kevin Thelwell offered him his unequivocal support before the international break.
But former Gers boss McLeish managed to overhaul Martin O’Neill’s Celtic to two remarkable title wins during the early noughties and he admits that the studied passing style among the centre backs and the goalkeeper can be quite ‘boring’ at times.
He told PLZ soccer: “It’s very early days to consider sacking the guy.

“He’s got a plan and I hope he’s got the players that are able to fulfil that plan, because if you don’t have the quality of player to do that, then that’s where the problem will come in for him.
“It’s really evident if you’re going to play the passing game from the back and get to the centre circle then get forced back the way, it really becomes quite intense and boring at times.”
The case in point was the recent goalless stalemate in the Old Firm match, a Glasgow grudge match which is usually full of excitement in both boxes.
McLeish said: “It probably needs more of an attacking strategy from both managers.
“Brendan knows what Celtic are all about and there’s even rumours coming from Celtic that Brendan is ready to go.”
Both sides of the Glasgow divide, have new players to unveil, of course, in massive league matches this weekend – as Celtic visit Kilmarnock on Sunday and Rangers host Hearts on Saturday.
The Gers can call upon new centre half Derek Cornelius and second highest-ever signing Youssef Chermiti, while Celtic have Kelechi Iheanacho to lead the line and a new winger in the form of Sebastian Tounekti.
