FIFA boss Gianni Infantino is set to award the organisation’s new “Peace Prize” – to US President Donald Trump.
Zurich chiefs announced the establishment of the new award under the tag-line “Football Unites the World”.
Fifa said the inaugural prize was be awarded at the finals draw for the 2026 World Cup in Washington DC next month.
Trump, who invited the Fifa President to his second inauguration in February and presented the Club World Cup trophy to Chelsea in July, will be at the draw.
And the most powerful man in the world is a racing certainty to be named as the winner at the Kennedy Centre on December 5.
A number of Trump supporters lambasted the Nobel Foundation when the US President was overlooked for its Peace Prize – instead awarded to Venezuela’s opposition leader – last month.

But Infantino, whose closeness to Trump has brought criticism, seems set to show that football thinks more of the US leader.
Fifa said the annual award would be “presented to individuals who, through their unwavering commitment and their special actions, have helped to unite people all over the world in peace and consequently deserve a special and unique recognition”.
Infantino added: “In an increasingly unsettled and divided world, it’s fundamental to recognise the outstanding contribution of those who work hard to end conflicts and bring people together in a spirit of peace.
“Football stands for peace, and on behalf of the entire global football community.

“The FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World will recognise the enormous efforts of those individuals who unite people, bringing hope for future generations.”
The move is likely to bring more negativity towards Infantino.
He’s walking a tightrope after Trump’s threats to move games scheduled in the Democrat-run cities of Seattle, Boston and San Francisco.
