Defending champions, Flyers Basketball, opened their best of five Division 1 Playoffs Finals with an 89-65 win over rivals Potters Steelers when they met in the feature game of a double-header at the JSC Sports Complex on Tuesday night.
The dominant Flyers outscored Steelers in all four quarters, claiming the opening quarter 21-20, taking the second 20-7, winning the third 25-18 before rounding off their campaign with a 23-20 margin in the final quarter.
They were led by national player Adonis Humphreys who sank a game-high of 23 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Humphreys had help from Kenya Achom with 14 points and Xavier Meade with 12 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. David Hernandez and Alexis Jackson both chipped in with 11 points. Jackson also grabbed 17 rebounds.


In a losing effort, Jayden Andrew top-scored for Steelers with 22 points while Cohen DeSouza hit 13 points and picked up 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile in Division 2, Ovals Ojays beat Navigators 77-55 to jump out to a one-nil lead in their best of five finals series also on Tuesday.
Navigators started strong, outscoring Ovals 15-13 in the first quarter. Ovals however rebounded the take the next three quarters 21-15, 27-10 and 16-15 to easily take game one.
In a winning effort, Tajahron Davis led the scoring for Ojays with 29 points while Shaheim Omarde contributed with 14 points while grabbing 13 rebounds. Tequan Brodie sank 11 points while Jayleyle Joseph bagged 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
For Navigators, Ariel Quallis top-scored with 15 points while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing seven assists. Ryan Shepherd added 14 points and 15 rebounds to the effort.
Game two of both series will be contested on Thursday with the D2 contest shooting off at 6:45pm and the D1 contested starting at 8:30pm.
