League champions, Flyers Basketball and runners-up Potters Steelers, got off to winning starts in their best of three, Division 1 Playoff series in the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) competition on Thursday at the JSC basketball complex.
Contesting the feature game of a double-header, Flyers made light work of the struggling Northside Stingerz, dominating the contest from start to finish to win by a 108-56 margin. Flyers outscored Stingerz in all four quarters, claiming the first 24-19, winning the second 29-13, taking the third 25-16 and dominating the fourth 30-8.
Selassie Braithwaite sank a game-high of 41 points and bagged 10 rebounds with Adonis Humphreys adding 17 points and 13 rebounds to the winning effort. Kenya Achom, picked up 11 points off the bench and Xavier Meade had 10 points and eight rebounds.
In a losing effort, Te-Ran Zachariah led the scoring for Stingerz with 19 points while grabbing seven rebounds. There were nine points each for Theo Blair and Christopher Henry.
Meanwhile in the night’s opening contest, Potters Steelers had an easy 90-69 victory over Ottos Full Throttle.
Outscoring Full Throttle in all four quarters with scores of 27-20, 18-16, 23-14 and 22-19, Devorn Benjamin hit a game-high of 30 points for the victors. He also had seven rebounds and seven assists. Kareem Edwards and Cohen DeSouza contributed with 23 and 22 points respectively. DeSouza also had 12 rebounds while Edwards picked up six. There were 11 points and eight rebounds for Keroi Lee also in the winning effort.
For Ottos Full Throttle, Warren Bogle led the efforts with 23 points and eight rebounds with Shawn Williams contributing 18 points off the bench. Akeem Davis chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds.
