Defending champions, Flyers Basketball, made light work of a motivated All Saints Slam to claim game one in their best of three Division One Playoffs semis 96-72 when they met in the feature game of a double-header at the JSC basketball complex on Saturday night.

Flyers dominated the contest, outscoring their opponents in three of four quarters. The defending league and playoffs champions won the opening quarter 24-15 but Slam rebounded to take the second quarter 24-17. Flyers’ experience proved too much for the All Saints men as the defending champs took the third and fourth quarters 25-17 and 30-16 respectively.
Selassie Brathwaite led the scoring for Flyers with 19 points while grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing eight assists. Adonis Humphreys contributed with 17 points and 13 rebounds while Kwame Brathwaite sank 16 points. There were further contributions of 13 and 12 points from David Hernandez and Javonte Daley respectively.
In a losing effort, Humroy Wright sank a game high of 32 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. Andrew Venture and Kim Casey added 15 and 13 points respectively to the effort.
Game two of the series will be contested in May 15 starting at 8:30 pm.

Meanwhile, Flyers 2 wrapped up their best of three Division 2 series against Old Road Daggers with a 70-65 triumph in the night’s opening game. It means that Flyers 2 advances to the semifinal round of the competition via a 2-1 series advantage.
The victors were led by Amare Brown with a game-high of 26 points while pulling nine rebounds. He had help from Rashaun Harry with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Naheem Joseph picked up 10 points. Kedar Clarke led the charge for Daggers with 20 points and 12 rebounds with Kelvin ‘Shugy’ Simon adding 12 points and 19 rebounds to the losing effort.
