Jamaica and Clemson University’s Shantae Foreman was not surprised at producing a world-leading and indoor personal best of 14.17 metres at the Orange and Purple Invitational Track and Field meet at Clemson University on Friday.
Competing for Clemson in her final season, the former St Jago High jumper overtook France’s Clemence Rougier as the world leader in the event. Rougier had previously led with a mark of 13.87 metres set in January.
“I am very pleased with my performance and I was not surprised by the achievement as I knew I had it in me to do something special. A day earlier the coach asked me about my expectations going into the event and I told him to expect something special,” said Foreman.
Foreman is now looking forward to the rest of the season.
“I am very pleased with what I did as I wanted to prove my doubters wrong, and I am looking forward to making the national team to this year’s World Indoor Championships,” she added.
National champion and 2024 Paris Olympic Games silver medallist, Shanieka Ricketts, who was at the Central Hurdles, Field Events and Relay meet at G.C. Foster College yesterday, spoke about Foreman’s latest feat.
“Her achievement was very impressive. She has been outstanding at the high school level, and to see her finding her way at the college level makes me proud of her. This is a small step and I am very excited for her. I am very confident that she will continue to do well and ensure Jamaica a good legacy in the event going forward,” said Ricketts.
