MATT Grimes knows there’s no short cut to success for Coventry City.
Or is there?

Place a pair of scissors in his hand – or clippers – and there might just be.
The Sky Blues might be the heirs apparent in terms of their Premier League chances but the midfielder is aiming to be a cut above.
It was during ‘lock’-down that he thought about giving hairdressing a curl.
And now, the 30-year-old midfielder is Coventry’s unofficial go-to grooming guy.

Former Swansea star Grimes said: “During lockdown we couldn’t go out, we couldn’t go anywhere. A lot of the lads were needing trims.
“And the barber who cut my hair was actually a qualified teacher, so he did an online course during lockdown.
“You know what it was like – none of us had anything to do and we couldn’t go out anywhere. So I just thought: ‘Why not?’
“I thought, I’ll do that so when we’re back in training, I can cut the lads’ hair because I think barber shops were one of the last things to open.

“We used a doll’s hair. It starts long. And then as you learn, you obviously cut it to get shorter and shorter and shorter. So then you learn about all the lengths of hair.
“I did a few of the neighbours. My brother. People were like rocking the like mad, long haircuts.
“So it was easy just to trim them down.”
Grimes is now using his skills on his pals, and even some team-mates.
He added: “Then I did a couple of my mates – and I’ve done Jake Bidwell’s hair.
“I was very close to Jake at the time. I just said to him: “Do you fancy a trim? I’ve just done this course.’
“His is easy now, but he had a little bit longer hair back in the day, so it was a little bit more tough – I think it came out all right.
“I’ve never charged anyone. I’ve done it out of the goodness of my own heart.
“I don’t think it’s a future career path.
“It was just something to do during lockdown. I’m quite a fidgety person.
“I can’t just sit there and do nothing and watch TV play playstation. I’d rather do something and learn something.
“And I chose to learn to cut hair.”
