The Grenada Football Association (GFA) successfully concluded a comprehensive 3-day Referee Development Workshop at its FA Secretariat on Thursday, marking a significant step in enhancing refereeing standards across the island.
The intensive programme is a product of the continued relationship between the Grenada FA and the Mexican FA and was facilitated by former FIFA Assistant Referee Mayte Ivonne Chavez Garcia.
The workshop, which ran from Tuesday to Thursday, was designed to equip Grenadian referees with advanced skills, up-to-date knowledge of the Laws of the Game, and enhanced practical techniques essential for modern football. Participants engaged in a mix of theoretical sessions and practical exercises, focusing on areas such as positioning, offside interpretations, foul recognition, effective communication, and match management.
Carl Lee, GFA General Secretary, expressed his gratitude for the successful execution of the workshop. “Investing in our referees is paramount to the integrity and growth of football in Grenada,” stated Lee. “This collaboration with the Mexican FA and the invaluable expertise of Mayte Chavez Garcia has provided our officials with world-class training, which will undoubtedly elevate the standard of officiating in our local leagues and beyond.”
Sheldon Carmichael, Referee Officer, shared his thoughts. “It was a privilege to see the dedicated and enthusiastic referees during the three days. Their eagerness to learn and improve bodes well for the future of Grenadian football. We are happy for the support of the GFA in their efforts to foster a culture of excellence in refereeing,” he commented.
The GFA anticipates that the skills and knowledge gained from this workshop will translate into improved match management, fairer play, and a higher overall quality of football matches across all levels of competition in Grenada. This initiative underscores the unwavering commitment to the holistic development of football, ensuring that all aspects of the game, including officiating, receive continuous support and enhancement.
