Grenada’s Senior Men’s National Team will open its historic FIFA Series 2026 campaign on 27 March 2026, against host nation Rwanda in Group A competition in Rwanda.
On the same day, Estonia and Kenya will contest the other Group A fixture. The winners of both 27 March matches will meet on 30 March 2026, while the 2 losing teams will also face each other on that date to complete the group’s competitive schedule.
Adding further significance to this historic occasion, Grenada’s opening match against Rwanda on 27 March is set to be played at Amahoro Stadium (Amahoro National Stadium) in Kigali, marking the first match hosted at the venue as part of its official opening. His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, is expected to be in attendance for the stadium’s inauguration and to witness the match, elevating the fixture beyond competition to a moment of major national and international visibility for Team Grenada and Caribbean football.
Competitive context and ranking stakes
The competitive landscape of Group A underscores the significance of the challenge ahead. According to the most recent FIFA World Rankings, Kenya is ranked 113th, Estonia is ranked 129th, Rwanda is ranked 130th, while Grenada now sits at 164th in the world. This ranking spread reflects the varied competitive profiles within the group and highlights the opportunity for Grenada to further improve its standing on the global stage. With an undefeated run of friendly results in 2025 that saw Grenada climb 10 places in the FIFA rankings, these fixtures in March present a valuable opportunity for additional ranking gains and further validation of the team’s upward trajectory.
A historic platform for the Senior Men’s National Team
The FIFA Series 2026 will feature 48 national teams from all 6 FIFA confederations, representing nearly a quarter of FIFA’s 211 Member Associations. Rwanda is one of eleven host nations, staging 2 men’s groups during the March international window.
All matches will be broadcast globally, ensuring unprecedented visibility for participating nations and expanded access for fans worldwide.
The FIFA Series, approved by the FIFA Council and aligned with FIFA’s Strategic Objectives for the Global Game 2023–2027, was designed to create meaningful cross-confederation competition without adding to the international calendar, while strengthening technical, operational, and commercial capacity among Member Associations.
Continued growth under strategic leadership
Under the current GFA administration, the Senior Men’s National Team has experienced steady upward momentum reflecting improved technical preparation, stronger international engagement, and disciplined program development.
The invitation to participate in the FIFA Series is widely viewed as a direct outcome of these strategic efforts.
President of the GFA Marlon Glean stated “Opening against Rwanda on 27 March is a tremendous opportunity for our players and our nation. Competing on African soil against teams from different confederations is invaluable for our development. This invitation affirms that Grenada is moving in the right direction, strategically, technically, and institutionally.”
Significance for Grenada and the Caribbean
Grenada is among a select number of Caribbean nations invited to participate in the 2026 edition, underscoring the country’s growing reputation within global football circles. Beyond the 2 fixtures, this participation provides:
- Competitive exposure against diverse footballing styles
- Increased international scouting and player visibility
- Tournament-style operational experience
- Strengthened international partnerships
President Glean emphasised the broader impact, “This is not simply about two matches in March. It is about positioning Grenada within the global football ecosystem. It is about inspiring our youth, strengthening our domestic structures, and demonstrating that small nations with disciplined governance and strategic intent can compete meaningfully on the world stage.”
A call for national support
As preparations intensify for 27 March and 30 March, the GFA calls on all Grenadians, both at home and in the diaspora, to stand in support of the Senior Men’s National Team.
When Team Grenada takes the field in Rwanda, they will represent the pride, resilience, and ambition of the entire nation. Further broadcast details and kick-off times will be shared as confirmed by FIFA and the host federation.
